The Blonds @ NYFW

Lyoka Tyagnereva for The Blonds by Adrian Nina

Check out these fabulous shots by the very talented Adrian Nina of The Blonds show at NYFW, in which they collaborated with Playboy.
Phillipe and David met when Phillipe decided to go to the Roxy on the night of his prom in in 2004. Dressed in sheer rhinestone studded top, David spotted this "Sparkly fairy" dancing in the corner, and The Blonds were born. Inspired by sexy femme fatales such as Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Jessica Rabbit ans Playboy bunnies, they have since dressed everyone from Rihanna and Gaga to Playboy bunnies in their uber-glamorous, super-fierce, sparkle-drenched custom creations.
For this collection, "Retro glamour was key to their season. Playboy and The Blonds are a match made in heaven. This season was about glamour and luxury and that's what the Playboy lifestyle embodies...The collection took its cue from the bombshells of the Sixties such as Raquel Welch, Jane Fonda in Barbarella and Playboy Bunnies," say The Blonds. These influences shone through in a bodice adorned with Playboy's original cartoon vixen, the 'Femlin,' and in an animal skin corset with fur trim and a gold mosaic corset with matching mask."

LA Rock Chic

I love LA style. I have never been but I have always been inspired by the music & movies which paint LA as an exciting of glamour, rock & roll and sunshine! I did live in Sydney for 7 years and a friend told me: "Sydney is more LA than LA!" Ha! My sister Banana-meetcute (check her out here) is venturing there soon so I am very excited to hear about her travels and see the trip chronicled on her Blog, her and Mr Meetcute being avid and clever photographers.
As a child of the 80's, I grew up listening to Motely Crue, Poison & Guns n Roses, trying to get my hair as BIG & high as possible (Kelly Bundy style). I dreamed of running away to the Sunset Strip, partying with Tommy Lee and living at the Chateau Marmont. This phase indelibly left it's mark on me - thankfully, it is more pared down now (and am no longer a size 8 or able to rock Daisy Dukes - although I saw these today and fell in love. Oh to to be 21 again eh? Or Fergie!). These days I can barely pry myself away from boots, jeans, leather jacket & & a washed out Tee. Laid back ease. But on the flip-side, I also love a bit of that glitzy trashy glam look that harks back to those hedonistic Hollywood Wives/Dynasty days (yep - I read it/watched it. No surprises there really - I loved Alexis and Sammy-Jo). Here are a few of my latest fave 'LA rock chick' looks.

of Wildfox (Not Sonic Youth!)

One of my fave brands, Wildfox, embodies that laid back Summer Rock Chick LA style - they are based in LA and their talented designer Kimberley Gordon also shoots most of their campaigns.

OK,  Jess Hart lives in NYC, but I love her laid back rock-chick style and  amazing collection of rock tees!

The House of G fights The Big C

Our fave New Zealand 'High St' store Glassons (aka The House of G, aka Comme des Glaz) has done it again. For the past 8 years for the Breast Cancer Awareness month of October, Glassons have released a line of designer Tees with $10 from each Tee sold donated to Breast Cancer Foundation. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among New Zealand women. 1 in 9 women in NZ will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, with more than 2,500 new cases expected this year. 90-95% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. The statistics are terrifying. Glassons’ partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Trust has raised over NZD$3.5 million since the initiative began. This funding has aiding some of the world’s most important research findings about breast cancer to date, including Auckland University's research to determine exactly what genes are involved in the development of breast cancer.
With fab New Zealand designers such as Ruby, Karen Walker, Twenty Seven Names, Cybele, Huffer and Zambezi participating, these Tees are a steal at $NZ29.99! I saw the window (above) unveiled in Newmarket on my way to work this morning, & was tres excited upon subsequently ready Hannah McArdles' Blog post about the launch breakfast this morning. This year not only are there Tees, but a whole plethora of fabulous goodies in Glassons' 'Cure Shop' including sexy black candles by Zambesi, hot pink Phone Clutches, Karen Walker inflatable Heart Chairs & cute heart cosmetics bags by Ruby.
Having alerted my Melbourne based sister BananaMeet-cute has blogged about her Twenty Seven Names sunglasses purchase!
I have nabbed a Zambesi candle and super cute pink star Ruby mug.

I will be purchasing these beauties next:
